Aweful, aweful design. I had no idea if I was taking it apart or solving it. I had to watch a solution video and even Mr Puzzle wasn't sure if he was supposed to take it apart. Seeing the actual solution didn't help, still had to use a screwdriver. Absolutely a terrible puzzle with no logic to go on.
I would really love to rate this puzzle higher.. it's a great idea, with great looks, sneaky secrets, and many "ah-ha!" moments, but alas, my puzzle arrived defective. I got the first two steps to the puzzle after an hour or so with no difficulties, and I had figured out what the final move must be, but it would only move a centimeter or so and not go any farther. I looked up the solution and yes I was doing it correctly, but no matter how much force I applied the puzzle remained stuck. I tried to take the puzzle apart to manually fix it but couldn't get the screws undone (they would just keep turning as a whole). Made for a very sad Christmas day :(
This is, with the pandora box, the other "cheap" sequential discovery puzzle. What I love with this one is not the solution which is good but not overly difficult or complex, specially if you have ever done some siebenstein, but the mechanism is very clever and moreover the best is the way some clues are hidden and bring to the solution but they are not explicit enough to bring straight forward to the solution and can even bring to wrong solutions. It could be an interesting challenge to try to guess the mechanism before opening the box.
